Description

In my time I have seen so many photo editors try to create the perfect human, and to me and many others this looks fake! They all seem to have this air brushed look, or just to perfect skin. What I am trying to get across, having a few blemishes here and there helps add reality to the photo!

If you look in the photo above, I have added extra colour and removed a lot of the blemishes, BUT I have left a few imperfections in, by doing this, has helped retain imperfection but gaining more perfection at the same time!

Now for how I go about creating my photo edits.

1) Assuming you are using photoshop load up your image and make a duplicate of the base layer, you can either select the move tool holding alt and dragging the layer, or you can simply press ctrl (selects) ctrl c(copy) ctrl v(paste).
2) Now you have a second layer we are going to add a gausian blur, this deletes a lot of small imperfections; I suggest a value of about 4 or 5, adding to much can be nice, but for what we are trying to achieve we want a subtle change.
3) With your second layer we are going to change the blending mode to screen, initially this may look very bright, but you can drag the opacity down to a desired setting.
4) Now go back to the first layer and start using a small cloning tool to block out them blemishes; remember not to take out to many, but for major blemishes e.g spots, cuts, it’s usually desired!
5) Finally with everything cleaned up you can mess about with the level settings and saturation, this can be found in Image, adjustments, levels or hue saturation. It is important to note that Photoshop is vastly powerful for colour settings and you can have a lot of fun!

I will be doing more visual tutorials in the future. So please bare with me!

awesome! I really like it- and I no kidding, was just thinking about how I hate how so many manips make the model's skin so smooth it looks fake or airbrushed like you said. I think leaving the pores in the skin keeps it looking real, but you still can just fix some blemishes. nice jo, and thanks for sharing.
